Oil on Linen, 12×18″ with hand made frame.  Temple of Anoninus Pius & Faustina now a church, Chiesa di San Lorenzo in Mirandain. the Forum of Rome, Italy.

History

This was the first temple in the Forum dedicated the an Emperors Wife. Founded in 141AD at the height of Rome’s power and wealth.  Based on numismatic evidence, the study of coins, the temple was originally fenced off from the Via Sacra and a large seated statue of Faustina would have been inside.  Fragments of this statue and one of Antoninus Pius, were discovered in front of the Temple.
