Information

Oil on Linen 24×28″ Shaftsburty Avenue.  London Ancient and Modern collection

Description

From a 1920s concrete relief to Graffiti to a Boris Bus and film poster, this painting is a wonderful cross section of London’s breadth. The main building in the work is the Odeon at the top of Shaftsbury Avenue. The Post Office Tower gives the final back drop of depth to the composition. This is the Artist’s favourite piece in the collection.

About the Artist

J Hugh L Beattie is a distinguished commission artist based near Colchester.  His large studio is a vibrant busy tapestry of British culture, brought to life through the paint brush. Here, classical elegance meets patriotic history. Hugh’s work is a testament to the enduring beauty of traditional composition.  His work is a beacon of grace in an age often side-tracked by hum-drum modernism.

With a profound respect for the military and civil subjects, Hugh’s historical paintings more than mere images; they are stories in colour that have shaped the nation.  He captures the essence of British life and its past. From the heroicism our troops to tranquil pastures, each piece, like ‘Enemy over London’, or ‘Rally to the Standard’, is homage to the struggle that moulded our History.
