J Hugh L Beattie is a distinguished commission artist based near Colchester, East Anglia. His large studio is a vibrant busy tapestry of British culture, brought to life through the paint brush. Hugh has served in the Yeomanry for 30 years, and now he exhibits his work at all the major History Festivals in England. He is not a photo-realist, but a follower of painters like Titian, Caravaggio and Sargent. His attention to military detail has a soldier’s eye whilst still retaining the painterly qualities of a loose almost impressionistic approach together with historic accuracy.
