History

Corfe Castle is a fortification standing above the village of Corfe on the Isle of Purbeck peninsula in Dorset. Built by William the Conqueror, the castle dates to the 11th century and commands a gap in the Purbeck Hills. The first phase was one of the earliest castles in England to be built using stone.  Cromwell took revenge on the castle after the Civil War which is why its in such a state today.

About the Artist

J Hugh L Beattie is a distinguished commission artist based near Colchester, East Anglia.  His large studio is a vibrant busy tapestry of British culture, brought to life through the paint brush. Here, classical elegance meets patriotic history. Hugh’s work is a testament to the enduring beauty of traditional composition.  His work is a beacon of grace in an age often side-tracked by hum-drum modernism.
