Oil on linen, small work with frame. A painting of the view from the position of the Medieval Woodstock hunting palace, to the Bastioned Palace of Blenheim across the shallow lake.
The palace that Queen Anne had built for the Duke of Marlborough to celebrate his epic unparalleled victories over the army’s of Louis XIV. Despite being from modest gentry, and not in over all command of an alliance full of Princes, Marlborough managed to charm his way to getting the right plans enacted. Britain has never had a more nimble military and logistical genius.
Service and Inspiration
Hugh has served in the Yeomanry for 30 years, and now he exhibits his work at all the major History Festivals in England. He is not a photo-realist, but a follower of painters like Titian, Caravaggio and Sargent. His attention to military detail has a soldier’s eye whilst still retaining the painterly qualities of a loose almost impressionistic approach together with historic accuracy.
For those looking to commission their own piece of history, Hugh offers a collaborative process. He honours the client’s vision while infusing it with his distinctive artistic style.
