The Army is developing an new unit called the Cultural Property Protection unit, this is to hunt down stolen art and to protect historic monuments in war time. I applied for this job without much hope that I would get it as I am not an Art Historian. However on meeting the unit, I was invited to be their Oil Painter instead. So with great excitement I am now the only official Oil Painter in the British Army.
My duties include painting the Chindit historical leaders, and also painting works to gift to friends of the British Army. I may not technically be a CWA (Combat War Artist) but a Deployable Oil Painter is a pretty unbelievable job and I have already been sent to Estonia to paint the Freedom Parade and Song festival.
