The New Chindit Artist
Posted on 2nd September 2019 at 16:43
The Old Chindits fought behind enemy lines in Burma, and the new Chindits fight behind enemy lines on the Web. I am now a small asset in the British Army Charm Offensive!
The Army is developing a new unit called the Cultural Property Protection Unit, essentially this unit is created to hunt down stolen art and to protect historic monuments in war time. I applied for this job without much hope of getting in, as I am not an art historian. However on meeting the unit, I was invited to become their oil painter instead. So with great excitement I am now the only official oil painter in the British Army.
My duties include painting the Chindit historical leaders, and also painting works to gift to friends of the British Army. I may not technically be a CWA (Combat War Artist) but a Deployable Oil Painter is a pretty unbelievable job and I have already been sent to Estonia to paint the Freedom Parade and Song festival.
