Information

Oil on Linen, 12×16″ framed.  Because Constantine converted to Christianity, all his monuments and statues had a better chance of survival than all previous emporors. Some of this arch is actually made up of parts of older triumphal arches and shows the decline of skill at that time in the Empire’s degradation. 312AD.

About the Artist

J Hugh L Beattie is a distinguished commission artist based near Colchester, East Anglia.  His large studio is a vibrant busy tapestry of British culture, brought to life through the paint brush. Here, classical elegance meets patriotic history. Hugh’s work is a testament to the enduring beauty of traditional composition.  His work is a beacon of grace in an age often side-tracked by hum-drum modernism.

With a profound respect for the military and civil subjects, Hugh’s historical paintings more than mere images; they are stories in colour that have shaped the nation.  He captures the essence of British life and its past. From the heroicism our troops to tranquil pastures, each piece, like ‘Enemy over London’, or ‘Rally to the Standard’, is homage to the struggle that moulded our History.
